International Burch University Represented at Symposium on EPOSTL

International Burch University (IBU) was represented at a two-day symposium titled Professional development of teachers: European Portfolio for (Student) Teachers of Languages, taking place at the Faculty of Philosophy in Sarajevo on Oct. 13-14, 2017.


This month International Burch University (IBU) was represented at a two-day symposium titled Professional development of teachers: European Portfolio for (Student) Teachers of Languages, taking place at the Faculty of Philosophy in Sarajevo on Oct. 13-14, 2017. Teachers and students of English from Sarajevo, Mostar, Bihać, Banja Luka, Tuzla and Zenica had an opportunity to learn about EPOSTL and participate in activities provided by notable professionals and professors from Europe. The team of moderators was composed of prominent experts from the European Centre for Modern Languages, David Newby, Anne-Brit Fenner, and Natalia Orlova, accompanied by local moderators, Larisa Kasumagić-Kafedžić, Merima Osmankadić and Selma Đuliman from the University of Sarajevo.

The program of the symposium comprised several sessions discussing the fundamentals of EPOSTL, the ways of using the EPOSTL in institutions, , Culture in the EPOSTL, Teacher education in BiH, etc.

The European Portfolio for Student Teachers of Languages (EPOSTL) is a document for students undergoing initial teacher education which has been used for years in many European countries. It encourages and helps teachers to reflect on their didactic knowledge and skills needed to teach languages, assess their didactic competences and moniter their own progress and record their teaching experiences. The portofolio aims to enhance the education and professional development of aspiring teachers.
