Philosophy for Lunch II - Roman Jakobson

On 7th of December 2017, the Linguistic Club organized another Philosophy for Lunch.

On 7th of December 2017, the Linguistic Club organized another Philosophy for Lunch.

The students from various departments gathered to grab a bite of pizza and dig into the world of philosophy. This time, the focus was on the philosophy of Roman Jakobson and the two aspects of language presented through the two axes - axis of combination and axis of selection.

Since the theory of two axes is applicable to many different concepts, the attendees tried connecting it to things they’ve already learned, from signifier and signified, to Freud’s theory of consciousness and unconsciousness. The next Philosophy for Lunch is scheduled for next year.
