Burch University’s senior student Mirela Imamovic participated in “Entrepreneurial Mindset through Social Innovation in Youth Work” project that took place in Durres, Albania, 19-29 April 2019. The participating countries were Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Romania, Serbia, Macedonia, and Turkey.

The project’s aim was to train youth workers on developing skills in social innovation, design thinking & innovative processes. The main goal was to teach the participants how to boost inclusion of youth with fewer opportunities through providing them skills and competencies in social innovation & entrepreneurship and how to transmit these skills to marginalized youth in their communities.

The youth workers explored the associated concepts of youth entrepreneurship, social enterprise and start up culture.

Projects like this one are designed to promote trans-national learning mobility and create networking between youth organizations in the EU and Western Balkans as a way to increase employability opportunities. The project was co-funded by the Erasmus+ program of the European Union.

After the training course, the participants’ task is to organize two workshops at the local level with at least 20 young people with a goal to put in practice the knowledge they have received during the training.

The participants also visited Tirana, the capital of Albania and some major institutions promoting youth work and inclusion of the marginalized groups.

This is what Mirela said about her experience: “I am very delighted that I have taken part in this project and got the chance to acquire new knowledge and invaluable skills related to entrepreneurship and social innovation in youth work.  I have created new memories with truly amazing, smart and hard-working participants. I am very thankful to the trainers who worked hard to carry out this project for us and helped us feel included and accepted. It was a pleasure to represent my country and get to know other cultures more, too.”
